Calabogie: safe commissioning of a generating-station redevelopment
From HV switching through to digital protection testing, for SNC-Sullivan / OPG.
Calabogie generating station (OPG), on the Madawaska River, has generated power since 1917. Its century-old powerhouse was replaced by a new station that roughly doubles capacity, from about 5 to about 11 MW. FORWA worked for SNC-Sullivan Joint Venture on testing and commissioning. Over close to two years and nearly 3,000 hours: HV isolation and lockout-tagout, breaker and 5 kV VLF cable testing, protection testing (SEL-487E and T60 relays), teleprotection, and station-service I/O testing.
